This is the most popular climbing as well as trekking peak in Nepal. The height of this peak is 6,160 meters which is more popularly known by the name of Island Peak. From Dingboche the mountain is clearly seen as a pyramid of ice and rock. Then the peak was named Island peak by Eric Shipton’s party in 1953. Later in 1983, the peak was renamed as Imja Tse. The mountain itself is the extension of the South Ridge of Lhotse Shar separated by a small col. The peak was first ascended in 1953 by a British team as preparation for climbing Everest. Tenzing Norgay was one of the members who successfully ascended it. Imja Tse provides some of the most spectacular scenery of the Himalayas in the Khumbu region Like: Nuptse (7,879m), Lhotse (8,501m), Lhotse Middle Peak (8,410m) and Lhotse Shar (8,383m) which make a semi-circle in the north. The views of Makalu (8,475m) in the east, Baruntse and Ama Dablam in the south add more charm to climbing Island Peak.
