Mera Peak (6,654m) is the highest permitted and popular among 18 trekking peak of Nepal. It stands to the south of Everest and dominates the watershed lies between the heavily wooded valleys of the Hinku and Hongu Drangkas. To ascent summit successfully is a very rewarding experience providing some wonderful vistas that take in Kangchenjunga and Makalu to the east with Everest Nuptse and Lhotse to the north. To the west stand the spires of Ama Dablam and Kang Taiga. The views from the Amphu Laptsa is amazing, you can see Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, Cho Oyu and Island Peak stretch all along the skyline. J.O.M. Roberts and Sen Tenzing are the first and successful ascenter of Mera Peak on 20 May 1953. The route they used is still considered to be the standard route. There are many other routes to the peak, but none of them are easy. Some of them require crossing very high and difficult passes which leads to a true mountaineering experience. At the end, all efforts and hard work is paid off with spectacular scenery as Mera provides one of the finest viewpoints in Nepal. Mera Peak offers a panoramic views of Chamlang, Kangchenjunga, Makalu, and Baruntse in the east. Everest can be viewed to the north over the massive unclimbed south face of Lhotse and the Nuptse/Lhotse ridge. Under favorable conditions, it is possible to climb the peak and descend back on the same day.
